NYCC Feb. 7th 2009

New York Comic Con Saturday Feb. 7th 2009

This is going to be really long and lots of picture oriented so if you just want the pretty, here is a link to all my pictures from the day.

NYCC Pictures

Started off the day at 6:15am, my dad and I got ready and headed out the door by 6:45, got to Philly in no time, but ended up driving around 30th street station like 7 times cause a lot of the parking areas were closed, so by the time we finally found the open parking garage and parked.

We got on the train, talked to Laurie [livejournal.com profile] stargazer60 on the phone and decided that we'd meet in Penn Station rather than walk up and down every single train car to find each other. We found each other no problem, and we started off the day with Auntie Anne's and soda.

We walked to the Javit's Center. Not a bad walk at all. People told me that it was a bit of a hike. I've walked longer stretches before and that was no where near my thought of a LONG walk.

100_3100

Outside the Javit's Center. The building in the second pic had a lot of smoke coming out of it. Don't know why. But it looked cool.

We got inside, got to the right area to pick up the tickets, they said long lines at the tickets, that wasn't where the long line was, after you get your tickets and lanyards you have to head downstairs and go through this rat maze of things to be let in. I mean it moved but still that was a good 45 minutes. This blurred pic does not do the rat maze justice.

100_3101

Had to take a picture of myself in the rat maze

100_3102

These girls were promoting some new show on Comedy Central. We got free temp tattoos from them.

100_3103

100_3104

The Storm Trooper who was greeting you after you exited the rat maze. (my camera picture)

100_3105

The entrance!!!

100_3106

100_3107

The kick ass Yoda statue that was at a booth near the entrance. But look at that price :o

100_3108

We saw the Tonner booth, alas no prototypes of the Torchwood dolls, but the Harry Potter dolls looked amazing, so I have faith in their Jack and Gwen dolls. They did give us these nifty bags which were fantastic for all of our other stuff throughout the day.

My dad and "Wonder Woman" Yeah that was a theme with him for the whole day, let's find the women with the least amount of costume on. He's a guy, I let him have his fun.

100_3109

Um we're not sure about this. It waved at us, so I took a pic.

100_3110

We walked past the autograph area just to see where to go for the Eve and Euros autographs later.

All you Classic Who fans here is The 6th Doctor just for you Colin Baker.

100_3111

He was at the Doctor Who Store.com booth. They were extremely friendly people. They had little postcards with the website and were pimping out Torchsong to which most people replied yeah right when they saw the price. But at the booth, I got S1 of Who captain Jack figure, and the Torchwood Capt. Jack figure and an old issue of DWM. I should have gotten the Weeping Angel figurine. But that's what San Diego is for.

The homemade R2D2. With the mans annoying kid running in front of everyone's picture. At one point I just wanted to smack that kid with his lightsabre, but you know he was only like 4 so I couldn't do that…

100_3112

I do have a pic of Laurie and I but I will let her decide if she wants that up on LJ. (Sorry it's up on webshots already).

Here is my pic of Jasika Nicole I took while Laurie was getting her picture signed.

100_3116

Next while Laurie was in for John Noble I noticed that Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi) from Star Trek: TNG was there, so I got my little trekki fangirl on and talked to her for a little and she was amazed that I was a younger TNG fan. (And I loved her accent. You might hear me say that a lot about NYCC).

100_3117

100_3122

Then I got back in line with Laurie and she went up to John Noble and started talking and decided on her pic. (Now at this time I didn't know he was in LOTR, till I saw his pics from there and I was like OMG totally awesome) but I just started snapping away so Laurie could have some good pics of him. So here's John Noble.

At this point my dad wants to wander around, so Laurie and I part ways with him and let him wander. But we want to head downstairs to see if we can at least find the panel room. We did, and apparently there was one huge clusterfuck with the Robot Chicken panel so we both just moved away from the panel room slowly and decided just to chill. By this point it's only noon and we are exhausted. But then I got a phone call from [livejournal.com profile] alba17 saying she'd arrived and asked where we were. She met up with us and we talked a bit, and she decided to go upstairs and check a couple things out since she had just arrived. She left my dad came down and still thought we were nuts for wanting to stake our claim for the TW panel, so I told him whatever and do what you want to do you've can call me. All the while I was Twittering about my day.

This was the sign outside the room for our panel. After the whole Robot Chicken debacle we headed back to try to queue for the DC Universe talk.

100_3124

We queued, the NYCC staff need to learn some form of communication between them and the security guards cause us fans were being bitched at for obeying one and not the other. Sooo GRRR to them for that.

But we ended up meeting a group of 8 or so Torchwhood fans. *waves to the group of Torchwood 5* and I even met [livejournal.com profile] woodencoyote which is kind of cool because we had been randomly talking about the trailer on Thursday and that we both had the OMG that's you moment was kind of cool. They let Laurie and [livejournal.com profile] alba17 and I all be with them. It was good. Strength in numbers.

We got into that DC Universe panel, and honestly I couldn't even tell you what it was about. There were lots of people who edit comic books going, oh this is cool, this is cool, and we can't tell you anything about this. But like Laurie said the one guy did have a sexy Scottish accent.

Alrighty folks, Now that you've gotten this far here's the good stuff. The TORCHWOOD Panel. I ended up being about 6 rows back. I was with [livejournal.com profile] woodencoyote and a couple other people who I don't know LJ's names from that were with her, and Laurie. My dad was right behind me and [livejournal.com profile] alba17 was a row or two in front of us. I was also in the same row as George, JB's webmaster. Like Laurie said, not at all what I was expecting to be George. I was too afraid to say hi. I should have. Oh well.

I think I'm just going to post about the panel then post the pics, cause I can't remember that much. And anyway I'm probably using a few phrases from Lauries LJ.

They set up the new TW promo pics. Gwen looks totally kick ass. (It's the pic that's on the BBC UK Torchwood website).

Then the Popcandy blogger who was the moderator came out and she introduced Euros and Eve, they came out and were waving and grinning, and I apologize to the lady in front of me who I bitched at, and I know she's on LJ, but seriously when like no one else is standing up and your standing up, it pisses people off. A little common sense there.

But they showed the trailer again, and lots of squeeing happened in the room seeing on the big screen. Then there was like this 5 minute mini declassified type thing hyping up the new season. There was really nothing spoilery given away. It's dark, there's some humor, deals with humanity, nothing new.

We learned that John Barrowman farts a lot. Though this fact has been stated numerous times before. Eve giggled while saying this and it was cute. So I forgive her.

Captain Jack dies a lot in the new series.

No Weevils this time around.

PC Andy is involved.

Eve loved shooting the two guns at the same time. Some fan said she could be Jane Bond instead of James Bond. She blushed.

Euros and Eve were genuinely chuffed at the fact that the panel room was packed solid and they still think Torchwood is just a little show made in Cardiff. The whole international fandom thing just boggles their minds. They are glad we like it.

Some fan would go gay for John, Eve would go gay for Captain Jack. Lots of laughs.

Children of Earth still has some humor in it. You get through the dark stuff with humor.

Eve loves to talk, and so does Euros. They were so wonderful. Sadly they didn't get to all the questions, because they took too long to answer questions so we ran out of time.

[livejournal.com profile] woodencoyote got to give her gift from her Torchwood 5 crew to Eve. I got a couple pics of them on the screen. But it was an adorable moment.

Non Torchwood, it took Eve 6 hours to get into her prosthetics for Merlin. It was long but she loved it because she got to be two different characters. She got to go to Paris to film part of it as well.

Now for the piccys for the panel (not all of them, you can check them out on my webshots page to see all of them.)

100_3138

100_3139

Yes I did take pictures of the big screen.

After the panel we went upstairs and stopped at a booth to grab photos of Eve for $5. Then we head in the back and we see this ungodly long line and we're like this is the TW line? Every one was like yep. So we got in the line we ended up around some really cool people so the wait wasn't that bad. There was some miserable dude who works there that kept coming back going your not going to get in. She's only here till 7 on the dot. We kept telling him we're not leaving till they walk away. Lo and behold we were in about the last batch of 10 they let in to get autographs. There were a hundred or so that were still behind us who didn't get to have anything signed. A pity, but I think it was Eve and Euros's fault just a tad because they kept talking to everyone, and asking questions. Then you had miserable dude yelling at you because you were answering them. It's like uh hello, they ask me a question damn straight I'm answering. I kind of stared at Euros for a bit. I think I was at a loss for words. I think I managed out something like Torchwood is the best show and I can't wait for CoE to air. I told Eve I had visited Cardiff last year and thought it was absolutely gorgeous and she was so happy about that. Then I told her it was really warm the day was there and she was shocked and said "go figure I was out of town that day". I want her to be a best friend. She is just so happy and when either her or Euros laugh it's infectious. Kind of like a JB laugh on TV. While in line my dad went and got my mom Peter Mayhew's autograph since she LOVES Chewy from Starwars.

ETA: In the autograph line I also met [livejournal.com profile] intopolitics she was the cool people behind us in line :D

Onto some piccys from the autograph line and them signing.

That's the back of [livejournal.com profile] alba17 talking to Eve. I didn't even realize I got the shot till I looked at it closely this afternoon.

100_3222

Um yeah I might have lost all coherent thought right about there. But hey I managed to take this pic so that says something right?

100_3223

My dad got this one of Euros:

100_3225

I have a picture of [livejournal.com profile] alba17, [livejournal.com profile] stargazer60, and I but I'll let those ladies decide if they want it on LJ. (It's up on webshots as I did a mass upload. It can be removed if you want).

After that it was a successful day we decided to walk back to Penn Station, we saw the Empire State Building all lit up for Go Red! Campaign.

100_3230

We ended the day with auntie anne's again. We decided to pay the extra money to get on the earlier train. So glad there was no way we could have survived if we had to wait for the 9pm train home. It was a good ride home, we parted ways with Laurie and my dad and I got home and were wired for a couple hours.

For the record my dad bought a Sonic Screwdriver toy and today I've been "fixed" by the screwdriver more times than I can count. Yes my dad is like a 5 year old when it comes to toys like that.

Here's my stuff from the Con that I bought:

100_3233

But now here are some cos players throughout the day that my dad took pictures of. I have no comment on the fact that most of them are in little to nothing costumes, but I wasn't the one taking them.

And that my friends is one day of NYCC in a nutshell. I applaud you for reading this all the way through. Good Job.

And yes this long of an entry is probably only the beginning of what I can type for San Diego. Just warning ya now.
