It was Christmas Eve, and even though the Rift sent through some Weevil’s earlier in the day, it was quiet now and Jack had sent the rest of the team home to go enjoy the holiday with their loved ones. Ianto was just getting ready to leave when he heard Jack call to him, “Stay with me tonight.”

Ianto should have known that he wasn’t going to get out of the Hub tonight and was going to have to make some excuse as to why he was late to his mum and pops tomorrow afternoon.

“Yes, Jack,” Ianto replied.

“I just want you to stay with me tonight,” Jack replied with innocent eyes.

“Just stay,” Ianto said with an arched eyebrow.

“Yes, it’s Christmas, and I know your going with your family tomorrow and since you are my family, I’d like to have you tonight.”

That last line made Ianto get a little choked up but he kept a stoic face and just leaned in and captured Jack’s lips in a kiss that was passionate, yet gentle. Jack led him downstairs to his bunker and they got ready for a nice night in bed.

The Weevil hunt from earlier had exhausted them more then they would have liked to admit, and they were asleep within a matter of moments.

A couple hours into their sleep they heard this noise. It could only be describe as hooves beating down on a rooftop, which is odd as the Hub doesn’t have a rooftop per se. So Ianto and Jack put on their shoes and robes and headed out to the main section of the hub. There they heard some more pitter pattering of hooves.

“What the hell is that,” Jack asked?

“I’m not sure,” Ianto replied as he was pulling up the CCTV footage at one of the workstations. When he got the footage pulled up he couldn’t believe his eyes. It was almost blizzard like conditions outside and on the roof of the Millennium Centre there was a sleigh and nine reindeer perched at the highest point. The noise was the reindeer trying not to fall off the slope of the Millennium Centre’s roof.

“Well I’ll be,” exclaimed Jack.

“I didn’t think any of this was real,” replied Ianto.

“You think you could make Santa some of your famous coffee and work up some sweets for the reindeer,” Jack asked in a childlike manner. Ianto just chuckled and gave Jack a quick kiss on the lips and got to making Santa some of the best coffee ever.

As soon as the coffee and treats were packed up, Jack and Ianto headed out to the roof of the WMC. Jack and Ianto made their way up to the roof as quickly and as quietly as they good every now and then stealing little kisses just because they could.

When they arrived at the roof, they noticed the sleigh was empty and the reindeer were looking quite impatient. They made their way to the reindeer softly as to not startle them and they started to hand them the sweet treats. The reindeer looked at the men gratefully and took the sweets from the men.

After about 20 minutes Santa still hasn’t come back and Jack walked up to Rudolph and whispered, “Is something, wrong? Do you need us to look for Santa?” Rudolph couldn’t understand what Jack was saying but recognized the concern in the mans voice. He bent his head down and moved his antler to Jack’s hand as a silent agreement between the two.

“Ianto, head back down to the Hub and scan the CCTV footage for the night. We need to find out where Santa is.”

“Right, on my way.” Ianto headed back down to the hub to scan for Santa. This can’t be good Ianto thought as he entered the Hub and pulled up the CCTV footage for the past 6 hours. He found when Santa arrived and then saw when Santa left the reindeer. Ianto then started to search all the other CCTV footage in the area and could find no traces of Santa.

“Jack,” Ianto called through the comm. “I can’t find him anywhere. I’ve marked when they’ve arrived, and when he leaves, but there’s nothing. It’s almost like he wanted to disappear.”

“Thanks.” Jack flipped his comm. off and looked directly at Rudolph. “Hey, I know you can understand me. So we’re going to have a little chat.” Rudolph just nuzzled Jack and acknowledged that something was wrong with Santa.

Ianto was still pouring over footage when he heard a noise in the Hub. He went to reach for his comm.’s but a voice said, “Please, don’t.”

Ianto looked up and it was Santa.

“Santa,” he questioned? “What’s wrong? Would you like a cup of coffee?”

“Long story and yes coffee would be fantastic, as I guess I’m tremendously behind schedule.”

Ianto motioned for Santa to take a seat up at the couch, while he moved into the kitchenette to make a couple cups of coffee, industrial strength and figure out a way to tell Jack the man was OK without cluing Santa in on it.

Ianto decided to make a lot of extra noise with the coffee machine while tapping on the comm’s to Jack.

“Psst. It’s OK, don’t ask.”

“What? Huh? Ianto,” Jack replied?

“Just don’t worry about it for now. Keep the reindeer occupied and not falling off the building.”

“What was that,” Santa asked from the couch.

“Nothing. Just talking to the coffee machine. You know to produce the best quality product, you have to give the machine some gentle care.”

“Right. I always knew you were an odd one. Loving coffee too much, even as a boy.”

“Me, odd? Well yeah I guess you could say that.” Ianto finished making the mugs of coffee and headed back out to the couch.

They sat in a silent understanding with one another. After about 5 minutes Ianto asked, “Why did you walk away?”

“I just don’t know anymore,” replied Santa. “I knew you guys were close, but I didn’t realize how close.”

“You know I think your reindeer care about you. They looked really worried.”

“Really, you think animals care?”

“Oh of course they do. Come on, I’ll show you.” Ianto led Santa back out of the Hub and up to the roof of the WMC. There they met Jack who was deep in conversation with Rudolph.

“Ahem,” Ianto spoke barely above a whisper so he would not frighten the reindeer.

Jack and Rudolph looked up as well as the other reindeer. They all had this relieved look to them.

“So where did you find Santa,” asked Jack?

“In the Hub. Yeah we need to talk about security later,” Ianto chuckled.

Santa just looked around at his reindeer and called them over. They moved over carefully so they wouldn’t slide off the building.

“I’m so sorry I wandered off. I shouldn’t have and after the holiday is over we can have a talk about some issues I’ve been feeling. But for now you guys are family, and apparently are going to be on a ginormous sugar high thanks to Jack.”

Jack just chuckled silently. “I had to do something to keep them from freaking out.”

“I know, how about I make it up to you guys.”

“How,” asked Ianto?

“Want to go for a ride?”

“You’ve got to be kidding,” Jack said.

“Nope, let’s go, I’ve got places to go and gifts to give tonight.”

With that the reindeer lined themselves up and each man hopped onto the sled, Santa in the front and Jack & Ianto in the back with the presents. They stole a couple quick kisses before they took off, Santa looked back and grinned. “You’ll be doing a lot more that in a couple minutes.” With that the reindeer took off and they all were high above Cardiff, and soon the UK. Jack just grinned like a 5 year old in a candy store, leaned in and kissed Ianto with all his might.

Santa looked back and gave a slight “ho, ho, ho” and continued on their journey. Looking around Ianto realized he most definitely was going to be late to his parents and for once he didn’t care. He was with Jack, Santa, and some wonderful reindeer on a once in a lifetime trip.
